why r.o.i.? design dogs vision & mission client stories what's next? awards/recognition staff résumés	Crystal Mountain Cottages at Water's Edge Crystal Mountain has a vision—to provide the best resort experience for vacationers in the upper midwest. A big step to bringing that vision to reality was the development of the Cottages at Waters Edge. These vacation homes are nicely nestled next to Crystal’s new outdoor water venue and provide a beautiful entrance landmark for the resort. Creating homey family spaces and an intimate community experience, the cottages are a hit with guests. Completed the summer of 2006, the 20 cottages have three floor plans, and three styles; The Garden Cottage, The Family Cabin, and the Vacation Bungalow. Keeping with Crystal’s appreciation for local culture, the architectural styles of the cottages reflect historical types of cottages found in Northern Michigan in the 1930’s and 40’s. r.o.i. Design participated in building the environmental “brand” of the Cottages at Waters Edge by building on historical research and creating interiors that included found and rebuilt furniture, built-in bunk beds, hand-tied window curtains, references to Michigan artists and authors , as well as color palettes that reflect the lightness, brightness and naturalness of Northern Michigan. While the interiors are romantically designed, they include every convenience and amenity you would expect from Crystal Mountain. r.o.i. Design’s role included not only over-all interior design, but also obtaining furniture, designing window coverings, and even choosing the knick-knacks on the mantel. We also provided design direction and graphics for promotional materials distributed to potential buyers that expressed the Cottages at Waters Edge brand. Responding to the client’s vision, r.o.i. Design contributed to this project’s smashing success. In fact, in 2006 Crystal Mountain was rated the #1 resort in the Midwest by Ski Magazine and the Cottages at Waters Edge is one of the reasons for their success.
